Tips for future Au Pairs

Being an Au Pair isn’t just about looking after children, it’s also about sharing with the family and forging new bonds. How do you go about it? Here are a few tips.

Be yourself
One of the most important things you can do to have a good relationship with your family is to be yourself. If you like to laugh, dance, sing, cook and have an adventurous spirit, you have to show it, because that’s often the key to winning parents’ trust.

Share your country’s culture
Families love it when you speak your native language and show them photos or videos of your country. You could also teach them typical dances, or even cook a well-known dish from your home region.

Make your family part of your life
Expressing your feelings and your daily life to your family is very important. Never forget that they’ll be there to help you if you need it. What’s more, it’s great to tell them about your friends or what you’ve been up to during the day, because you feel like you’re really at home.

Family vacations
It’s true that sometimes they need us to look after the kids when we go on vacation together. Most of the time, however, it’s to help you discover their culture and have the opportunity to share more adventures as a family.

Finally, don’t forget that for the relationship to be effective, you need to have the right attitude. Here, our personality plays one of the most important roles as an au pair. A smile can brighten up the day.
